Founder, Coyotes Lacrosse Club

Steve founded the Coyotes Lacrosse Club with his wife, Lisa, in 2001.
Starting with one boys’ team, they watched the club quickly grow to over 225 players annually. Over many years, in addition to being President of the Board, Steve coached several of the boys’ teams and was the face of lacrosse on the Peninsula. He was instrumental in the 2007 entry of both Burlingame High School (where he also coached) and Junipero Serra High School into the Central Coast Section of the California Interscholastic Federation.
Introduced to lacrosse as a freshman at Cornell University, Steve lettered on their 1971 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship team and the undefeated 1970 Ivy League Championship squad. Steve was a starting defenseman for Cornell’s 1972 season.
Cornell won the NCAA Championship again in 2025, which Steve was able to go to – a highlight for him. Go Big Red!
He was a perennial all-star defenseman during his 8-year Northern California Lacrosse Association career with the San Francisco Lacrosse Club, spanning the 1976-1983 seasons. In the mid 1980’s, Steve was a founding member of the organization that evolved into the NorCal
Chapter of US Lacrosse – the national governing body of lacrosse.
Recognized for his dedication to the sport, he was inducted into the US Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame NorCal Chapter Class of 2006 for “who by your deeds and examples, personify the great contribution of the sport of lacrosse to our way of life”.
Steve loved lacrosse. He loved playing it, coaching it and championing it for the great sport it is.

"Thank you Steve (and Lisa) for your love of the game and for starting the Coyotes on the Peninsula."

Spring 2026 Uniform Changes

To recognize Steve Alms' contributions to the Coyotes organization, we made two changes on the Spring 2026 uniforms:
Located on the front side of the jersey, the letters "SA" are included to keep Steve's contributions and love of the game in our hearts and minds.

On the rear jersey, we replaced our prior logo with one that Steve designed, a black and white Coyotes integrated with a lacrosse stick.
